About This Show

In this program of real and imagined heroes meet Lemminkäinen, a star of Finnish mythology. In the eyes of Sibelius, he was “fair of cheek and comely beneath his brows.” Hear how Sibelius tapped into the atmosphere of this folk epic to create a canvas that encourages you to let your mind wander. Our local hero is Principal Cello Anthony Ross, whose artistry is a perfect fit for Bloch’s concerto Schelomo , featuring the cello as the “voice” of the biblical King Solomon.
